Contain Iron and Ruthenium

The moments of complexes containing NO offer a puzzling problem. The diamagnetism of compounds of iron and ruthenium suggests that Feiv and RuIV form a double bond with NO, making seven bonds in all, which woud lead to /t = 0. But this structure cannot be applied to [Co(NH3)6-NO]Cl2, which has a moment corresponding to a triplet state. Further study of such complexes is needed.

Stabilization of high iron and ruthenium oxidation states has been achieved with the N2H2S2—H2 ligand. The reaction according to Eq. 15 yields diamagnetic [Ru(PCy3)(N2S2)] which formally contains a Ru(IV) center (78). 

The iridium complex contained a tightly bound carbonyl group, unlike the rhodium complex, in accord with the stronger bonding of CO groups to 5d than to transition metals (216). Related iron and ruthenium carbonyl porphyrins have also been described 14, 217, 461). 

Star-shaped molecules containing cationic arene complexes of iron and ruthenium have been reported by Astruc and co-workers.298 Utilizing the activating nature of the cyclopentadienyliron moiety on the complexed arene, 260 was converted into 262 via bromobenzylation. The photolysis of 262 gave 263, which was subsequently reacted with 264 to give the hexametallic complex 265. Further nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions with phenol 266 gave the allyl-substituted complex 267 (Scheme 2.70).
