Constructive alignment

It is important to construct aligned CNT arrays in order to measure properties of individual tubes and to advance the development of electrical and/or electronic devices. From this viewpoint recent developments concerning CNT preparations involve the creation of aligned CNT bundles. 

Construction of Alignment Charts. Of the ways to construct alignment charts, the bmte force method, which requires some idea of the geometry for the chart, is the easiest method to use. The mathematical method, which uses parametric equations of scale to determine the placement and scale of each axis, is the most accurate, but the most difficult to apply.

Hopfinger et al. [53, 54] have constructed 3D-QSAR models with the 4D-QSAR analysis formahsm. This formalism allows both conformational flexibility and freedom of alignment by ensemble averaging, i.e., the fourth dimension is the dimension of ensemble sampling. The 4D-QSAR analysis can be seen as the evolution of Molecular Shape Analysis [55, 56].
