Although the use of a discrete fibre and matrix has been shown to allow the construction of self-reinforced polymer composites either by using slightly different chemistries or by physical constraint to achieve the combination of fibre and matrix, other technologies have been presented in which self-reinforced polymer composites are created solely from the reinforcing phase without the addition of extra matrix material. These methods represent a very significant contribution to the field of self-reinforced polymer composites and are described in Sect. 2.7. [Pg.21]
