Conjugated unsaturated systems defined

Some further evidence in favor of this formulation may be adduced from the ultraviolet absorption curves of the isomers. Neither of these shows any well-defined maximum between 2200 and 2800 A., and a conjugated system of unsaturated bonds may thus be excluded. However, both isomers exhibit rising end-absorption over this wide spectral region, and the curve is moved by changes in pH of the aqueous media thus the ab-sportion data suggest a close association between one unsaturated and the basic center of the molecule. 

In addition to these phase equilibria, some data on the solubilities of other hydrocarbons in liquid oxygen are reported. The saturated hydrocarbon data are summarized in Figure 12, and the unsaturated hydrocarbon data are presented in Figure 13. For these systems the solubility is defined as the concentration of hydrocarbons in liquid oxygen in parts per million, measured in mols, Where conjugate liquid phases might exist, the hydrocarbon concentration value shown is for the oxygen-rich phase.
