Conical ring seals

I ve put drawings of microscale equipment I ve had occasion to use in this section, along with some discussion ofthe 0-ring seals, conical vials, drying tubes, and so on. I ve put full descriptions of certain microscale apparatus with the operations they re used in. So Craig tubes show up with recrystallization the Hickman still is with distillation. 

The design concept with totally metallic, such as lens seal rings, is found to be safer and more practicable. The conical joint with cap nut (Fig. 4.2-1 E) can be used for small nominal pipe... 

If your capillary gas delivery tube was connected directly to a conical vial with an O-ring cap seal (Fig. 39a), you have to undo the seal on a hot vial ( )...

The filter paper is constructed so that when it is folded in half and then folded again, it opens into a conical shape that fits a filtration funnel. A piece is often torn from the corner to help seal the paper to the funnel, (b) The paper is placed into a filtration funnel, (c) The funnel is placed in a ring on a ring stand. The mixture is poured along a stirring rod, and the filter paper traps the solids as the liquid solution passes into a beaker.
