Conformational rules

Similarly, vinylcyclopropane (1) gives only [2 -I- 2] cycladdition products with TONE, leaving the three-membered ring intact (see Section 2.2.1.2.2.). Preorientation of the vinylcyclopropane in the synperiplanar or synclinal conformation (rule 1), as realized in the bicyclohexene system 2, should enhance the reactivity towards dienophiles however, this is clearly insufficient. Additional strain (rule 2) or jc-donor substitution (3, rule 3) are further options to enhance the reactivity per se they seem to be insufficient. The combination of two activating principles, however, realized in homofuran (4, rule 1 -t- 3) or benzvalene (6, rule 1 -f 2) sufficiently peps up the reactivity of the embedded vinylcyclopropane system such that homo-diene-type cycloadditions occur (see Section 2.2.1.2.1.). 

The planned workflow management system for AMB-Informatik meets both issues. First, it provides support for the definition at build-time of work-flows and conformance rules via the conformance rules editor. Second, laws or domain specific regulations are enforced at runtime by checking dynamic changes of a workflow instance by a conformance checker before these changes actually take effect in the workflow instance.

The resulting conformation is totally coded in the primary structure of the chain (the amino acid sequence). This is expressed by the "one sequence, one conformation rule, which is dramatically confirmed by the observation that denatured proteins regain their biological activity once the appropriate environment is restored (Anfinsen et al., 1961 and 1975).

Side chain generation is often a source of error. It will be most reliable if certain rules of thumb are obeyed. Start with structurally conserved side chains and hold them fixed. Then look at the energy and entropy of rotamers for the remaining side chains. Conventional conformation search techniques are often used to place each side chain. 

The Birch reductions of C C double bonds with alkali metals in liquid ammonia or amines obey other rules than do the catalytic hydrogenations (D. Caine, 1976). In these reactions regio- and stereoselectivities are mainly determined by the stabilities of the intermediate carbanions. If one reduces, for example, the a, -unsaturated decalone below with lithium, a dianion is formed, whereof three different conformations (A), (B), and (C) are conceivable. This widespread conformity to the Gurvitsch rule constitutes powerful support for the capillary condensation hypothesis in relation to Type IV isotherms.
