Concepts of a Uniform Nomenclature for Bioprocess Kinetics

There is a distinction among symbols for the absolute rate of a reaction (rj, the rate of transport of a substance (nj), and the rate of heat (q). Lower case italic letters are used the dot indicating the first derivative is omitted. [Pg.19]

Rate constants are always designated with k, uniformly for both reactions and transport k or kj. or with /cl, kg, /cq, and k. The rate of reaction, with n the order of the reaction is generally [Pg.19]

The dimensions of the reaction rate constant, k, are [t (mol/V) ] thus, dependent on the order of the reaction. For the rate of mass transfer (with Ac = the concentration gradient)  [Pg.19]

/cjr and /chtr are phenomenological transfer coefficients, which are further interpreted using true transfer coefficients (/cli,/cl25 h) d the corresponding interfacial areas Uq i, lis, an), [Pg.20]
