Compression molding, estimated

Acrylics processed by compression-molding techniques give dentures as satisfactory and dimensionally stable as the estimated 5% of the dentures made with special resins and elaborate processing equipment (208). Promising fiber-reinforced dentures have been reported (209—212). [Pg.489]

The largest volume of fluoroelastomers (about 60% of total) is processed by compression molding. A blank (preform) is placed into a preheated mold, compressed, and cured at the appropriate temperature (see above) for a time established empirically. A good estimate for the curing time in the mold is the value of Co from the measurements by oscillating disk rheometer. In the mold design, it is necessary... [Pg.104]

Intrinsically conductive polyaniline (PANI) composite gaskets were used to microwave (2.45 GHz) weld high density polyethylene (HOPE) bars [ 148]. Two composite gaskets were made from a mixture of HDPE and PANI (50 and 60 wt%) powders in different proportions. The mixtures were compression molded in a hot (180 °C) press. Adiabatic heating experiments were used to estimate the internal... [Pg.257]

PPE matrix and holes with a diameter of 5-10 pm can be observed (Figure 8a). After drawing, the LCP spheres are transformed into fibrils oriented in the draw direction, with diameters between 1 and 3 pm (Figure 8b). The SEM observations of the peeled fracture surfaces show an excellent orientation of the fibrils in the draw direction (Figure 8c). In order to estimate the aspect ratio of the fibrils, some of the drawn bristles and compression molded films were treated with a selective solvent (toluene) for removing the PPE matrix. Since nearly no ends of the fibrils were observed (Figure 8d), it can be concluded that the aspect ratio of the fibrils is very high. [Pg.160]

The density of slowly cooled compression molded films was determined using a density gradient column. Water and 2-propanol were mixed according to ASTM-1505-85. The error in the density estimation was no greater than 0.0003 g/cc. [Pg.493]

The PAI resin is utilized for small, simple parts. Because of its stiff melt flow, the resin is available in compression moldable powder. Grades include neat, filled, and glass-reinforced resins it is also available in solution for use as an enamel. Because of high prices ( 33—44/kg) the market is limited, estimated at 150—300 tons for the molding resin. Resins competing with PAI include PEI, polyethersulfones, and thermoset resins. [Pg.276]

Kim (82) estimated PED from compressive experiments on molded disks of a number of materials, as shown in Fig. 5.17. High modulus, yielding, amorphous polymers such as PS dissipate a large amount of mechanical energy, compared to lower modulus, polycrystalline polymers, as shown again in Fig. 5.17. Iso-PED and corresponding iso-ATadiab contours can be obtained from a number of cylindrical specimens compressed to various strains at various initial temperatures, as shown in Fig. 5.18(a) and 5.18(b). From such plots, the expected ATadiab from one or more successive E deformations can be obtained, as shown in Fig. 5.19, for PS compressed to successive eo = 1 deformations. [Pg.576]
