Also obtained by catalytic debenzylation of l-(4-benzyl-oxyphenyl)-2-methoxyethanone in methanol under hydrogen (five bars) in the presence of 5% Pd/C for 24 h (81%) [4824]. 

Also obtained by alkaline degradation of 7-acetoxy-3,4-dimethoxycoumarin (m.p. 123-124°) with sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate [4838].
