Complexes, alkyne-metal Grignard reagents

Alkali metal alkyls, particularly n-butyl lithium, are the most frequently used reagents to form metallated intermediates.246 247 In certain cases (di- and triphenyl-methane, acetylene and 1-alkynes, cyclopentadiene) alkali metals can be directly applied. Grignard reagents are used to form magnesium acetylides and cyclopenta-dienyl complexes.248 Organolithium compounds with a bulky alkoxide, most notably M-BuLi-ferf-BuOK in THF/hexane mixture, known as the Lochmann-Schlosser reagent or LICKOR superbase, are more active and versatile reagents.249-252... 

Terminal alkynes are readily deprotonated by Grignard reagents, and no further addition occurs to al-kynylmagnesium halides. The reactions of type II proceed by transmetallation of the complex 5. The transmetallation of 5 with hard carbon nucleophiles M R (M = main group metals) such as Grignard reagents and metal hydrides MH generates 8. Subsequent reductive elimination gives rise to an allene derivative as the final product. Coupling reactions of terminal alkynes in the presence of Cul belong to Type II.
