Complex Reaction Systems The Existence of Parallel and Consecutive Reactions 

In this chapter, two examples demonstrate that, in addition to the desired enzyme-catalyzed conversion of the substrate S to the product Pi, other reactions have to be considered, e. g. a parallel reaction of S to P2 or a consecutive reaction of Pi to P3. For a hypothetical reaction scheme, see (Eq. 4). 

The selectivity api.s is defined as the product Pi formed in relation to the substrate S consumed. 

The yield Ypi.s is defined as the ratio of the product Pt formed to the initial substrate
