Column chromatography, application general discussion

The empirical expressions derived are generally applicable to all types of column chromatography and are used universally, first as a measure of column performance and efficiency, expressed in terms of the number of theoretical plates N) and the height equivalent of a theoretical plate (HETP) denoted by H, and secondly, to measure the resolution R ) attained in the chromatogram. For a fuller discussion the reader is directed to Chapter 2, though a brief resume of the expressions for these parameters is presented below.
