Recently, a search for natural antiviral agents led to the isolation (389,390), along with 6-methylpurine, of two nucleosides, 6-methylnebu-larine and 6-hydroxymethylnebularine, from mycelial cultures of Collybia maculata. All the alkaloids revealed antifungal, cytotoxic, and antiviral activities however, no antibacterial activities were observed. The structures of the metabolites were established on the basis of H- and C-NMR data (Fig. 27). The data appeared to correlate exactly with the values... 

Five new sesquiterpenes 4-8 were provided from the crude extract of fresh and undamaged fruiting bodies of Collybia maculata <01T2791>. 

In culture, the fungus Collybia maculata (Basidiomy-cetes) produces the antiviral purine derivatives 6-M. (C4H N4, Mr 134.14, cryst., mp. 235 °C), 6-methyl-9-P-O-ribofuranosylpurine (C H,4N404, Mr 266.26, cryst., mp. 210 C), and 6-hydroxymethyl-9- D-ribo-furanosylpurine (C, H,4N405, Mr 282.26, cryst., mp. 152-156 °C). The ribosides are effective inhibitors of adenosine deaminase.
