Cochliobolus miyabeanus

A detailed account of the chemical and spectroscopic evidence for the structures of cochlioquinone-A (18a) and -B (18b) has been published. These compounds are metabolites of Cochliobolus miyabeanus, a parasitic mould which grows on rice, and their unusual cyclofarnesane structure is probably derived in nature by introduction of a farnesyl unit into an aromatic precursor followed by cyclization of an intermediate bis-epoxide. 

Industry Co. Ltd. Iprobenfos and edifenphos are used extensively in rice to control P. oryzae, Corticium sasakii and Cochliobolus miyabeanus. 

Curry leaves have been studied for their antifungal activity against three plant-pathogenic fungi, i.e. Rhizoctonia solani, R. bataticola [Macrophominaphaseolina] and Helminthosporium oryzae [Cochliobolus miyabeanus] (Ray and Srivastava, 2006). 

In addition, they prepared racemic steroisomers of des-methyl analogs of 1 (14 to 17, Fig. 2). As a result, only 4-desmethylcycloheximide ( )-15 with the natural relative stereochemistry of CHX showed weak activity against S. cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger and Cochliobolus miyabeanus [18]. Consequently, 4S, a l -configuration is at least responsible for the CHX activity. 

Removal of the bitter taste of citrus juices and citrus fruit pulps is possible by enzymatic cleavage of the sugar moiety using a mixture of a-rhamnosidase and P-glucosidase. These enzymes are isolated from microorganisms such as Phomopsis citri, Cochliobolus miyabeanus or Rhizoctonia solanii ...
