Zirconium and other nonmultivalent metal ions can act as promoters in some manner not currently clearly defined. For zirconium, the effect may be related to changes in monomer—dimer equitibria of Co(II) complexes (2,204,205). [Pg.343]

Extrapolation from the known reactivity of cyclobutadiene would suggest that azetes should be highly reactive towards dimerization and as dienes and dienophiles in cycloaddition reactions and the presence of a polar C=N should impart additional reactivity towards attack by nucleophiles. A gene encoding this sequence was synthesized and the corresponding protein, called Janus, was expressed, purified, and characterized.
