Classification and Types of Adhesives

Adhesives can be classified in many different ways, e.g., by application or setting, chemical composition, cost, materials to be bonded, and end products or use. [Pg.220]

Adhesives can be applied as (a) a melted solid which sets when cooled, (b) a solution or suspension in a solvent which evaporates, and (c) unpolymerized or partly polymerized blend which sets when polymerization is completed. [Pg.220]

The further classification of adhesives can be made by referring to the namre of the material, organic, inorganic, or hybrid. Thus, organic adhesives are either namral (e.g., starch, gelatin, shellac), [Pg.220]
