Basic lead silicochromate [11113-70-5] (National Lead Co. designation Pigment M-50) is a composite in which basic lead chromate, ie, chrome orange, is precipitated onto a lead siUcate—siUca base. It does not have an appreciable chromate solubiUty and depends on lead oxide for its effectiveness. [Pg.146]

Lead Chromates and Molybdates. The lead chromates appear in several shades of yellow. The primrose and lemon are solid solutions of lead sulfate in the chromate and have the stable monoclinic stmcture. The medium shade contains no sulfate. Chrome orange is a compound with lead oxide (PbCrO TbO). Molybdate orange is a combination of lead chromate and sulfate with molybdate (PbMoO ). These pigments have the advantages of... [Pg.458]

The colors of lead molybdate pigments vary from red with a yellow hue to red with a blue hue. Since chrome orange is no longer available (see Section 3.4.3), molybdate orange has become much more important. [Pg.119]

Chrome orange [1344-38-3], C.I. Pigment Orange 21 77601, is a basic lead chromate with the composition PbCr04 PbO but is no longer of technical or economic importance. [Pg.120]

These are based on lead chromate and exhibit all gradations in colour from pale yellow to gamet red, but they may be referred to three principal types chrome yellow, normal lead chromate chrome orange, mixture of normal and basic lead chromates chrome red, basic lead chromate. [Pg.379]

Excess of Lead Oxide in Chrome Orange and Chrome Red.— 1 gram of the substance is treated in the cold with dilute acetic add, which dissolves only the lead oxide not combined as normal chromate in the filtered solution the lead is estimated by the ordinary methods. When no other substances soluble in acetic acid are present, the insoluble part (normal chromate and any extraneous insoluble substances present) may be collected, washed, dried and weighed the lead oxide is then given by difference. [Pg.381]

Lead chromate occurs in nature as crocoite, an orange-red mineral. Synthetically prepared lead chromate and its solid solutions with lead sulfate and lead molybdate represent a hue range from primrose yellow to red. The various hues of chrome yellow, chrome orange, and molybdate orange depend not only on composition but also on crystal structure and particle size. [Pg.135]

Molybdate oranges are solid solutions of lead chromate, lead molybdate, and lead sulfate and range in hue from yellow-shade orange to medium red. Chrome orange is PbCr04 PbO and varies in hue from yellow-shade to red-shade orange with particle size manipulation. [Pg.135]
