The loss in column efficiency versus inlet tubings of various internal diameters is shown in Figure 3.6. It can be seen that the column efficiency decreases dramatically with an increasing extra-column volume. Additionally, the early eluted peaks are more susceptible to extra-column volume, and the loss in efficiency for those peaks is more significant. Finally, the chromatograms provided by 0.254 and 0.508 mm inlet tubings with a length of 50 cm were too deteriorated to be used in practice. [Pg.67]
