These findings led to the preparation of k-carrageenans of low molar mass (9.3, 15, 140, 240, and 650 kDa) by microwave degradation of the carrageenan of Chondrus ocellatus. These degraded k-carrageenans have immimos-timulant properties and have been shown to enhance the antitumor activity of 5-fluorouradl (5-FU) in mice transplanted with SIO and H-22 tumors (Yamada et al., 1997 Zhou et al., 2004, 2005, 2006). [Pg.494]
