Steps in the formation of classical neurotransmitters. AADC, amino acid decarboxylase AChE, acetylcholinesterase CAT, choline acetyltransferase COMT, catechol-O-methyltransfeiase DBH, dopamine P-hydroxylase DA, dopamine DOPA, dibydroxyphenylalanine GABA-T, GABA transaminase GAD, glutamic acid decarboxylase HD, histidine decarboxylase 5-HTP, 5-hydroxytrytophan MAO, monoamine oxidase PNMT, phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase TH, tyrosine hydroxylase TPH, tryptophan hydroxylase. [Pg.15]

In a separate study of 192 IgG-saporin-treated animals, CDD-0102 produced a similar improvement in performance following oral administration (10 mg/kg, p.o.). Rats receiving saline achieved 55 + 4.0% correct while animals receiving CDD-0102 achieved 94 + 1.2% correct. Lesions of the basal forebrain cholinergic system were confirmed by assaying choline acetyltransferase activity following completion of each behavioral study. [Pg.69]

The de novo synthesis of PAF requires three steps. In the first step, 1-0-alkyl-2-lyso-5 n-glycerol-3-phosphate is acetylated by an acetyltransferase to form l-0-alkyl-2-acetyl-5n-glycero-3-phosphate. The second step requires the action of a phosphohydrolase, resulting in the generation of l-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycerol. Finally the transfer of phosphochohne is catalysed by dithiothreitol-insensitive choline phosphotransferase (Goracci et al, 1994 Snyder, 1995 Francescangeli etal, 1996). [Pg.116]

Choline Acetvlase - Choline acetyltransferase, the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of acetylcholine from choline and acetylcoenzyme A, was first studied in cell-free preparations by Nachmansohn and Machado O. Even though the Importance of choline acetylase Is as great as that of acetylcholinesterase, much less Interest has been centered on the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of acetylcholine than on the enzyme responsible for Its hydrolysis, until fairly recently. The properties of choline acetyltransferase isolated from squid ganglia... [Pg.238]
