Cholesteryl-cyclodextrins

Cholesteryl-cyclodextrins Cholesteryl-CyDs have been designed, and are obtained by grafting a cholesterol group onto a CyD. Indeed, cholesterol is described as a phospholipid-bilayer stabilizer and the cholesterol part of cholesteryl-CyDs can enter this bilayer whereas CyD, the hydrophilic part, is located in the internal and external aqueous media between bilayers [90, 91].

A recent study of such irradiations in the presence of -cyclodextrin and various L-amlno acids also revealed asymmetric induction, but the optical yields were low. In one case of asymmetric induction, brief heating of 2-rerf-butyloxaziridine in a medium of cholesteryl benzoate at 148°C yielded a (—)-enriched enantiomer in up to 20% enantiomeric excess. It seems that this experiment requires special attention to the experimental details. ... 

Other Amphiphilic Cyclodextrins Other amphiphilic CyDs as well as cholesteryl-CyDs can form lipidic vesicles. These vesicles can be liposomes or vesicles delimited by the bilayer of amphiphilic molecules, sometimes incorrectly named liposomes . 

Numerous studies have attempted to elucidate the effect of skin penetrants by thermal analysis. Kaplun-Frischoff and Touitou [182] showed that methanol decreased the melting peaks of cholesteryl oleate and ceramides and modified the DSC of isolated stratum comeum this alters its barrier properties. Similarly a soybean-lecithin micro-emulsion gel was shown to affect the stratum comeum lipid organisation by FTIR and DSC [186] and hydroxypropyl-P-cyclodextrin can increase the permeability of the stratum corneum, possibly as a result of lipid extraction that induced modest changes in the stratum comeum lipid transition temperature [179].
