Chloromethanes and nitrogen dioxide

Chloromethanes react with nitrogen dioxide in the gas phase. Carbon tetrachloride reacts slowly at 385 °C whereas the other chloromethanes are more reactive. The kinetics of the reactions involving the three lower [Pg.494]

The observations suggest a chain reaction initiated by H-atom abstraction [Pg.495]

This is supported by the appearance of CH2 CINO2 but no CH3 NO 2 in the reaction products from methyl chloride, and by the fact that carbon tetrachloride is relatively unreactive compared with the other compounds. The initiation step is followed by [Pg.495]
