Chloro-3-trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy biphenyl

In a dry three-necked round-bottomed flask equipped with argon inlet, rubber septum, and thermometer, Pd(dba)2 (35 mg, 0.06 mmol, 1.3mol%) and tri(o-furyl)phosphine (28 mg, 0.12 mmol, 2.6mol%) were dissolved in THF (2mL). After the red-wine color discharged [Pg.414]

To a solution of Pd(dba), (72 mg, 0.12 mmol, 5 mol% and dppf (68 mg, 0.12 mmol, 5 mol%) in THF (2mL) was added 4-cyano-2 -(trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy)biphenyl (0.67 g, 4 mmol) at 0°C, followed by a solution of 4-methoxyphenylzinc bromide (12 mL, 0.5 M in 2 1 THF/hexane, 3.0equiv.). The reaction mixture was heated to 65 °C for 30 h. After the usual workup as described above (Section 9.6.13) and purification by flash chromatography with hexanes/ethyl acetate (98 2), the desired terphenyl 61 (0.53 g, 89% yield) was obtained as a white solid (mp 95-96 °C). [Pg.415]
