Chlorine trichloroborazine

The compound [Q2C=N—BC12]2 is formed on photochemical chlorination of l,3,5-trimethyI-2,4,6-trichloroborazine 3°) or by interaction of trichlorobor-ane with thiocyanogen trichloride. The reaction of the latter compound with tribromoborane leads to [C12C=N—BBr2]2 21). These processes are summarized in Eq. (7). 

The observation that l,3,5-trimethyl-2,4,6-trichloroborazine yields some dimeric (dichloromethyleneamino)dichloroborane upon photochemical chlorination 30> (c.f. Eq. (7)) prompted the synthesis of this compound by the reaction of BC13 with C1SNCC12 2I> (c.f. Eq. (7)) and also by the 1,2-addition of trichloroborane to chlorocyanide 23> as depicted in Eq. (15). 

B,B, 5"-Trichloroborazine is readily reduced with alkali metal hydroborates to yield borazine, (HBNH)3. The boron-bonded chlorine can be replaced by fluorine through the action of metal fluorides upon the trichloroborazine. With amines, the latter reacts to yield B,B, B"-triaminoborazines. The substitution of chlorine in iV-substituted B,B, B"-trichloro-borazines by organic groups is most easily achieved by the Grignard method but has also been effected by the use of organolithium compounds. 

Three chlorines replace the three hydrogens on the three borons of the borazine molecule. Notice that the hydrogens on the nitrogens can be replaced as well, therefore we must use B s to indicate that the chlorines are attached to the boron. Its name is B,B,B-trichloroborazine. 

A similar approach has been reported by Paciorek et al. [45 16] Poly[B-ami-noborazines] have been prepared through nucleophilic reactions of the chlorine atoms in the B-trichloroborazine (Eq. 14.12).
