Chisocheton paniculatus

Epi-isomasticadienolalic acid (50) is a further new compound from Schinus molle. The galls of Pistacia palestrina contain several known compounds including 3j8-hydroxytirucalla-7,24-diene (see Vol. 8, p. 162). Structure (51) has been proposed for a triterpenoid from the fruits of Melia azedarach. The lack of an oxygen substituent at C-3 is unusual. Four new apotirucallol derivatives (52)—(55) have been isolated from the wood of Chisocheton paniculatus. ... 

Oxidative modification eventually results in the removal of the four terminal side-chain carbons and formation of a -substituted furan ring. A hemiacetal (15) and a lactone (16) from Chisocheton paniculatus (Meliaceae) represent stages between the intact side chain and the furan ring.

Vilasinin (9), which is interestingly related to the more complex compounds of group VII such as salannin (10) by the presence in both of a 28,6a-oxide, has been isolated from Azadirachta indica 112,164) and from Chisocheton paniculatus 64). The stereochemistry of this compound has been fully confirmed by Kraus 112) by use of the n.o.e., which has shown that the three methyl groups at C4, C o and Cg are all cis. So far, all known natural limonoids substituted at 6 or 7 have the 6a-configuration, except 6p-acetoxyobacunol 201). 

Chisocheton paniculatus 64) yielded 6a-acetoxyepoxyazadiradione (11), previously isolated from Carapa guyanensis 129), and four new azadirone derivatives, only one of which had a furan ring. This was identified as 60c-acetoxy-l P-hydroxyazadiradione (12), from the similarity of the spectrum to that of 17P-hydroxyazadiradione described by Kraus 111).
