Chips dielectric polymer design

DESIGNING A POLYMER FOR USE AS A CHIP DIELECTRIC Up to now, the discussion has focussed on trying to adapt commercially available polymers for use in advanced chips. A far more satisfying and rewarding approach to chip dielectrics would be to tailor new polymers which would not compromise the excellent properties of the PMDA/ODA polyimide and yet solve the problems enumerated above. Since cost is only a modest consideration in chip applications, one could also explore far more exotic compositions. In addition, by designing materials which take into account possible opportunities and trade-offs in computer architecture and device design, material scientists would be in a position to influence the evolution of advanced computer hardware. [Pg.358]
