The main actors in existing projects tend to be companies involved in fossil fuel extraction and combustion oil and gas companies, coal producers, and some car manufacturers. These include, but are not limited to BP, Exxon-Mobil, Shell, EdF, Ford, Statoil, Chevron-Texaco, Total, RWE, Ford, and General Motors. 

Texaco was merged with Chevron to become Chevron-Texaco.

In June 2004, GE acquired the assets of Chevron Texaco s gasification technology business. To date, more than 65 commercial gasification facilities using GE technology are in operation or advanced development stages. 

Readiness to cooperate in the Kuwaiti project was expressed by Mobil, British Petroleum, Amoco, Shell, Chevron, Texaco, Conoco, Philips, Arco, Elf, Total and Lasmo. In view of the large number of potential partners, Kuwait will not give the whole field to only one foreign company, but to a foreign enterprise to form a consortium of two or more firms.

Recently, some 12 plants based on natural gas have been proposed, totalling in the order of 33 000 x 10 tpa capacity [6]. Although several of the proposed plants may be considered competitive bids, it is reasonable to expect that at least three commercially viable projects will be implemented still this decade (more than doubling the cinrent installed global capacity), viz. plants of 1 300 x 10 tpa in Nigeria (Sasol / Chevron Texaco [6]) and plants of 1 300 x 10 tpa (Sasol / QPC [6]) and 5 500 x 10 tpa (Shell / QPC [7]) in Qatar.

In 1961, hydrocracking was introduced to convert gas oil into naphthene-rich heavy naphtha, which is a superb feed for a catalytic reformer. The first unit used the Isocracking process developed by Standard Oil of California (now Chevron Texaco).
