Chemically significant text

If the structure is partially known, it is valuable to record that part of the structure which is known, together with some descriptive chemically significant text (CST). Where the structure is attached to a resin or biomolecule, then the point of attachment can be indicated. The CST is attached to the whole structure as a labelled SGroup.

Interpretation of an FI spectrum involves a consideration of the chemical significance of the ions observed in the mass spectrum and then using this information to derive an unequivocal structure. For a detailed consideration of the interpretation of FI mass spectra, the text by McLafferty and Turecek [7] is recommended. 

In the male offspring whose treatment was continued through 11-12 weeks of age, however, dose-related effects were seen on all the above end points, and these effects were significantly different from controls at all three dose levels (Desi et al. 1998) (see also Section S.2.2.4). The study did not determine the critical period (if any) and duration of exposure for these neurological effects. A limitation of this study is that results specifically for methyl parathion were shown only for the somatosensory electrocortico-gram the other results for this chemical were stated in the text, but not shown. 

The appearance of the first appendices of chemical analysis and references to them in the text of a major excavation report represents the earliest significant collaboration between archaeologists and chemists. Examples include the analysis of four Assyrian bronzes and a sample of glass in Austen Henry... 

In both their industrial and biological functions, the 3-dimensional characteristics of carbohydrates are important. Many of these stereochemical features are described for carbohydrates in the classic text by Stoddart (2). The inqportance of stereochemistry is underscored by the unique chemical and physical properties of the individual sugars, many of which are configurational isomers. Stereochemistry also plays a role in detentlining the properties of polysaccharides. Molecular shape is as significant for the properties of an industrially modified starch as it is for the recognition of one particular blood type and the rejection of others.
