Chemical reactions coherent development

Biomimetic chemistry is a new stage in the development of chemical ideas. In this book, new information on coherent synchronization of chemical and biochemical reactions is developed in the application of achievements of mimetic catalysis. [Pg.337]

This book focuses on the basic concepts in molecular reaction dynamics, which is the microscopic atomic-level description of chemical reactions, in contrast to the macroscopic phenomenological description known from chemical kinetics. It is a very extensive field and we have obviously not been able, or even tried, to make a comprehensive treatment of all contributions to this field. Instead, we limited ourselves to give a reasonable coherent and systematic presentation of what we find to be central and important theoretical concepts and developments, which should be useful for students at the graduate or senior undergraduate level and for researchers who want to enter the field. [Pg.384]

The variety of manifestations in time of coherent development of molecular dynamics also includes such phenomena as mono- and bimolecular chemical reactions. Thus, Seideman et al [342] suggest the idea of governing the yield of a reaction by suddenly creating coherent superposition of two states of the transient complex and applying a second pulse with fixed delay for the dissociation of the complex. The appearance of coherent beats in femtochemistry , in particular, at photodissociation, has been analyzed by Zewail (review [404]). [Pg.140]

With the advent of the laser, a new source of light is available that possesses unique monochromatic, coherence, and propagation characteristics. When such laser devices are driven by chemical reactions, the power of the laser beam can be spectacular. Maity scientific and technical challenges have been met in the past, three decades, integrating advances in chemistry, physics, fluid dynamics, optics, and engineering to develop these high-power chemical lasers. These devices are now finding important applications in industrial and military operations. [Pg.47]

For the last decade or so, a new method has been developed to control chemical reactions that it is based on the wave nature of atoms and molecules. The new methodology is called quantum control , or coherent control of chemical reactions, and is based on the coherent excitation of the molecule by a laser. Generally speaking, an ultra-short laser pulse creates a wave packet whose time evolution describes the molecular evolution in the superposition of excited states. Quantum control tries to modify the superposition of such an ensemble of excited states and, therefore, influences the motion of the wave... [Pg.9]

For many applications a specific time profile of short laser pulses is desired. One example is the coherent control of chemical reactions (see Sect. 15.2) Recently, some techniques have been developed that allow such pulse shaping and that work as follows ... [Pg.641]
