Chemical Ionization Techniques and Terms

In its original implementation, chemical ionization delivered positive ions [2-5], and therefore, for many practitioners the acronym Cl used without further specifications still stands for positive-ion chemical ionization (PICI) where the latter term should be preferred for negative ions the term negative-ion chemical ionization (NICI) should be used [8]. Table 7.1 provides an overview of Cl terms and acronyms.
