Characters appearances and

In each of the plays discussed so far, only one character appears and speaks more often than Lisette. In the three-act version of Der Misogyn Lisette, the only servant (Wumshater calls in vain in the first scene for den Schurken Johann, who has gone off on some errand and stays away), is present in twelve out of twenty-three scenes, but despite this her part is not large. After rare appearances in the first two acts, she is on stage for almost all of act III, but often silent. As far as number of speeches goes, only one other character has a lesser role than she. But she is presented as a force to be reckoned with behind the scenes. The master of the house, Wumshater, complains ...
