The spiro compound a-chamigrene has been isolated from Schisandra chinensis fruits and p-chamigrene from Chamaecyparis taiwanensis [27]. p-Chamigrene was the main compound in Trichilia connaroides root oil [35]. [Pg.2988]

Early work had demonstrated the toxicity of extracts from western red cedar (173). This research was continued in Sweden with the identification of the thu-japlicins as the agents responsible for this toxicity and the chemical structure determinations (54, 145, 172). The toxicity, however, was against fungi rather than humans. Meanwhile, Nozoe and co-workers had isolated )ff-thujaplicin and its iron complex from the oil of Chamaecyparis taiwanensis (135, 137). These compounds, which were used medically, were called hinokitiol and hinokitin, respectively, in their literature (136). The durability of Thuja plicata wood and its chemistry were reviewed by Gardner (63). [Pg.934]
