It is clear now that solvent environment can affect the chain conformations of tile polyacetylenes carrying the pendants of naturally occurring building blocks. This suggests the possibility of tuning the chain heiicity by external stimuli and we thus pursued the helical manipulation. 

However, these polymers showed a very interesting property in solution both then-helical sense and backbone elongation could be selectively tuned. Four responses were obtained according to two different stimuli (the polar or donor character) of the solvent, i.e. P or M axial chirality and chain lengthening or shortening.
