CH3

Polymerization reactions. There are two broad types of polymerization reactions, those which involve a termination step and those which do not. An example that involves a termination step is free-radical polymerization of an alkene molecule. The polymerization requires a free radical from an initiator compound such as a peroxide. The initiator breaks down to form a free radical (e.g., CH3 or OH), which attaches to a molecule of alkene and in so doing generates another free radical. Consider the polymerization of vinyl chloride from a free-radical initiator R. An initiation step first occurs ... [Pg.21]

X-alanine, 2-aminopropanoic acid, C3H7NO2, CH3.CH(NH2)C00H. M.p. 297X. One of the amino-acids obtained by the hydrolysis of proteins. [Pg.18]

CH3-[CH2],8-C00H. M.p. 75 C. A fatty acid occurring as glycerides in peanut and other vegetable oils. [Pg.40]

CH3 [CHJb-COOH. M.p. 31 5"C, b.p. 268-270 C. A fatty acid, occurring in wool as the potassium salt, as esters in fusel oil, and as glycerides in cows and goats milk and coconut and palm oils. [Pg.78]

HisN03,(CH3)3N + -CH2 CH0H CH2C00-. Isolated from skeletal muscle. It acts as a carrier for ethanoyl groups and fatty acyl groups across the mitochondrial membrane during the biosynthesis or oxidation of fatty acids. [Pg.84]

CH3 [CH2l24 COOH. M.p. 88 C. Occurs free in many waxes. [Pg.89]
