Certified Clinical Engineer

In 2002, the American College of Clinical Engineering started a clinical engineering certification program sponsored by its Healthcare Technology Foundation. This body awarded certification to several individuals who had certified previously under other programs and has continued awarding certifications since then. [Pg.339]

After course work is completed, clinical engineers often complete an internship in a teaching hospital, which gives him or her a practical background in hospital functions. He or she may also become certified by the American College of Clinical Engineering, which involves written and oral tests to demonstrate specific knowledge and a portfolio review to determine applicable experience. [Pg.341]

In 1993, the Annual Meeting approved a proposal according to which members have possibility to apply for Certification in Clinical or Biomedical Engineering. Each application to become a Certified Clinical or Biomedical Engineer is assessed by an Accreditation Panel. This panel place considerable emphasis on checking that the candidate has not only the formal education, but also the competence to be certified. [Pg.240]
