Cedrela toona

Gerber has isolated (+ )-epicubenol (81) from a Streptomyces species. This compound is the enantiomer of that found in the essential oil of Cedrela toona Roxb. The syntheses of four naturally-occurring phenolic sesquiterpenoids obtained from the essential oil of elm wood have been reported, viz. (82 R = Me), (82 R = CHO), (83 R = Me), and (83 R = CHO). The known o-quinone, mansonone C (84), has also been isolated from elm wood. The structure (85) of sesquichamaenol, a minor component of the essential oil of Chamaecyparis forrnosensis, has been deduced on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and synthesis. Piers et al. have published complete details of their syntheses of a- and ) -cubebenes (86). [Pg.76]

Acyclic diterpenes are not common. Most known acyclic diterpenes are derived from hydrolysis of GGPP and relatively simple modifications (Figs. 22.3 and 22.4). The fragrant compound geranylgeraniol (3) is accumulated in the wood of Cedrela toona (Meliaceae) (Croteau and Johnson, 1985). The monounsaturated diterpene, phytol (4), is a com-... [Pg.399]

Of the above four types, cadinanes are most common and are fairly widely distributed in nature (396). Several of these compounds have been found in woody parts of plants. Examples are T cadinol (294) and the hydroxy ketone 295 from the wood of Taiwania cryptomerioides (92, 255), (4-)-5-cadinene (296) from trunk wood of Cedrela toona (291), and (-)-y-cadinene (286), khusinol (297) and several related compounds from vetiver oil of North Indian origin (222, 394). Muurolenes (e.g., e-muurolene, 298) were first characterized in 1966, and were isolated from wood of Firms sylvestris (413). [Pg.734]

Cedrelone (518) is the major tetranortriterpenoid from heartwood of Cedrela toona.
