Vindolicine (vindoline 10,10 -dimer) and fourteen bisindole alkaloids of the vinblastine group have been isolated from the aerial parts of Catharanthus ovalis.ny These include leurosine, 21 -hydroxyleurosine, vinblastine, 20 -deoxy-leurosidine, 20 -deoxyvinblastine, pleurosine, Catharine, catharinine, vincristine, and vincathicine. A new alkaloid is 21 -oxoleurosine (198), which has also been found recently in Catharanthus roseus.U8 The three remaining alkaloids are vincovaline (199) and vincovalinine (16 -desmethoxycarbonyl-leurosine), whose structures119 have now been confirmed, and vincovalicine, which has... [Pg.192]

The continuation of a systematic study of the constituents of Catharanthus ovalis has resulted in the isolation of three further alkaloids.156 Vincovaline (263) is a new stereoisomer of vinblastine that is formulated (o.r.d. evidence) as being stereoisomeric at positions 14 and 16 the configuration at C-20 is not specified. Vincovalinine appears to be 16 -demethoxycarbonyl-leurosine, and vincovalicine... [Pg.208]

The preparation of (331) described here is superior to the route which involves an application of the Polonovski reaction 14/ in fact, the major product of this latter reaction proves to be 21 -hydroxyleurosine (332), identical with the alkaloid of this structure recently isolated from Catharanthus ovalis.Ug Disproportionation of... [Pg.243]

Hydroxy tabersonine (108) is a constituent of the aerial parts of Catharanthus ovalis Mgf. (63) and the branches and leaves of Melodinus... [Pg.34]

Vincoline (128) has recently been found in Melodinus suaveolens (95) and M. morsei (38), and the alkaloids 129 and 130, from Catharanthus ovalis (63,139), whose structures were elucidated earlier (1), are now referred to as kitraline (195) and kitramine (19/ ), respectively (63). [Pg.38]

Andriamialisoa et al. isolated from Catharanthus ovalis Mgf (49) two alkaloids closely related to vincoline. The main peaks of the mass spectrum, however, were shifted 14 mu, suggesting the presence of a methoxy rather than a hydroxy group. Indeed, the PMR spectrum showed an additional three-proton singlet at 3.18 ppm. The remainder of the spectrum was very similar to that of vincoline in one of the alkaloids a methyl doublet was observed at 0.55 ppm, a carbomethoxy singlet was at... [Pg.225]

Catharanthus ovalis Mgf. contains a wide variety of indole alkaloids, of which 24 have recently been isolated from the aerial parts. " These include serpentine, alstonine, and 16-epi-pleiocarpamine this last base had not been encountered previously in the genus Catharanthus. Pleiocarpamine has been found in the trunk and root bark of Hunteria congolana Pichon, and 2,7-dihydropleiocarp-amine in the root bark. " The Nfoxide of 16-cpi-pleiocarpamine occurs in the leaves of Vinca minor and isoreserpinine in ViVicn herbacea. ... [Pg.154]

Sarpagine-Ajmaline-Picraline-Vobasine Group. The roots and stems of Rauwolfia schueli Speg. (R. boliviana Mgf.) have been re-examined,and the ajmaline content has been quantitatively estimated the conclusion is that this plant constitutes one of the richest sources of ajmaline. Ajmaline also occurs in Melodinus balansae Baillon var. paucivenosus, normacusine B occurs in Strych-nos nux vomicai akuammidine in M. celastroides, and pericyclivine and caberine in the aerial parts of Catharanthus ovalis. ... [Pg.170]

Strychnine-Akuammicine-Ellipticine Group. Akuammicine has been found in the seeds of Hunteria congolana and Na-methyl-2/3,16 -dihydroakuammicine in the leaves of Vinca minor. Tubotaiwine and condylocarpine occur in Aspid-osperma album tubotaiwine and apparicine have been isolated from Catharanthus ovalis, tubotaiwine also from Pandaca boiteau and Melodinus aeneus Baill., in the last of which tubotaiwine Nb-oxide also occurs. ... [Pg.173]
