Catalytic gravimetric results

Gravimetric Results of Catalytic Cracking. Experiments were conducted to assess the effects of temperature, cat-to-oil ratio, and feedstock composition. In addition to the effect of variables on product yields, it was also important to identify the relative influence of thermal reactions, since free-radical reactions may adversely affect product quality. A series of experiments was conducted in the temperature range of 412°-415°C because this is the temperature of maximum increase in production from thermal cracking and catalytic vs. thermal effects are more easily discernible at this temperature. 

By the summer of 1929 I had obtained positive spectroscopic and gravimetric results to prove the existence of the hydrides of gold and silver and to estimate their heats of dissociation (4). I asked Bonhoeffer whether I could work on some aspect of the ortho-para-hydrogen conversion. He suggested that I try to find out first the mechanism of the thermal para-hydrogen conversion and then that of the catalytic conversion. 

Conversion and coke formation during catalytic ethene oligomerization catalyzed by HZSM-5 have been investigated in the TEOM and in a conventional gravimetric microbalance under similar conditions (2). The results show that the TEOM is a powerful tool for determination of the kinetics of deactivation of catalysts, with a design that makes determination of the true space velocity (or space time) easy. The TEOM combines the advantages of the conventional microbalance with those of a fixed-bed reactor, and the same criteria can be used to check for plug flow and differential operation.
