Feedback support cards

Feedback Support Cards. Written cards can be an effective way to support verbal feedback as part of the observation process. They may be thank-you cards distributed to employees who are performing safely on the day they are observed. Observers may give the cards to employees to support a specific safe behavior that is being emphasized by a special campaign, such a proper lifting in conjunction with a back safety campaign. Or the observers may give the cards to everyone in an area with 100 percent safety performance. 

Communications should be two-way, incorporating mechanisms (e.g., questionnaires, response cards, callback numbers, etc.) for soliciting feedback from the people receiving information. This is particularly true of communications that support initiatives like PSM that require cooperation and may require changes in working habits.

Intervene If indicated, corrective actions should be taken to improve processes, practices, or medication use. Possible actions include the development of consensus statements or guidelines when they do not already exist, providing feedback on performance, education of health professionals (seminars, newsletters, feedback letters, one-on-one communication), creation of tools to support use of guidelines and treatment protocols (such as standard order sets, computerized pathways, pocket cards), redesigned processes, or patient education. 

Tokens for Awards or Lottery. This support device is similar to the feedback cards except that the employees receive tokens that may entitle them to prizes or special awards. The tokens may be, for example, trading stamps or lottery tickets. They may have a specific value, such as stamps or points that are used to earn specific awards, or they may allow those who earn them to participate in an award drawing.
