Carboxylic acids permanganate

Internal alkynes are oxidized to acytoins by thalliuin(III) in acidic solution (A. McKil-lop, 1973 G.W. Rotermund, 1975) or to 1,2-diketones by permanganate or by in situ generated ruthenium tetroxide (D.G. Lee, 1969, 1973 H. Gopal, 1971). Terminal alkynes undergo oxidative degradation to carboxylic acids with loss of the terminal carbon atom with these oxidants. [Pg.132]

Potassium permanganate (KMn04) will also oxidize pri mary alcohols to carboxylic acids What is the oxidation state of manganese in KMn04 ... [Pg.641]

Oxidation of primary alcohols (Section 15 10) Potassi um permanganate and chromic acid convert primary al cohols to carboxylic acids by way of the corresponding aldehyde... [Pg.807]

Oxidation of aldehydes (Section 17 15) Aldehydes are particularly sensitive to oxidation and are converted to carboxylic acids by a number of oxidizing agents in eluding potassium permanganate and chromic acid... [Pg.807]

Pyridazine aldehydes and ketones with the carbonyl group at the ring or in a side chain react in the usual manner. They form hydrazones, semicarbazides, oximes, etc. Side-chain aldehydes can be easily oxidized to pyridazinecarboxylic acids with silver nitrate and side-chain ketones are oxidized to carboxylic acids by treatment with potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide. [Pg.32]

Methyl groups in pyridopyrazines (64IMC240) and pyridopyrazinones (71TH21500) are oxidized to carboxylic acids with potassium permanganate. Aryl carbinol substituents are also very readily oxidized to benzoyl derivatives in alkaline conditions (76CPB238). Bromina-tion of 2,3-dimethylpyrido[3,4-f ]pyridazine gives the 2,3-bisbromomethyl derivative, whilst... [Pg.252]

Various 6- and 7-methyl- and 6,7-dimethyl-pteridines bearing either oxo or amino groups in the 2- and 4-positions can be oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acids by alkaline potassium permanganate on heating. Various lumazine and pterin mono- and di-carboxylic acids have been prepared in this way (48JA3026, 78CB3790). [Pg.302]

We have already noted (Section 4.04.2.1.4(xi)) that alkyl groups on pyrazoles are oxidized with permanganate to carboxylic acids. Silver nitrate and ammonium persulfate transform 4-ethyl-1-methylpyrazole (436) into the ketone (437) (72JHC1373). The best yield was obtained starting with the alcohol (438) and using an acid dichromate solution as oxidizing agent. [Pg.260]

When compound (443), which contains alkene and alkyne moieties, was reacted with benzonitrile oxide, both an isoxazoline (444) and isoxazole (445) were produced, with the former predominating. Oxidation of (444) with permanganate produced 3-phenyl-2-isoxazoline-5-carboxylic acid (446) (67ZOR82i). The reaction of 1-trimethylsilylbut-l-yne-3-ene produced only a compound which reacted at the alkenic unit. Oxidation of the adduct also produced (446) (68ZOB1820). These reactions are shown in Scheme 102. [Pg.90]

Similarly, permanganate oxidation of a number of naturally occurring canthin-6-one derivatives (295) leads to j8-carboline-l-carboxylic acid or its methyl ester.A j8-carboline-l-carboxylic acid... [Pg.155]

Alkynyltiiazoles 94 are readily oxidized with potassium permanganate in acetone to the corresponding l,2,3-tiiazole-5-carboxylic acids (95). [Pg.182]

Carboxylic acids can be prepared by oxidizing primary alcohols and aldehydes with a strong oxidizing agent, such as acidified aqueous potassium permanganate solution. In some cases, an alkyl group can be oxidized directly to a carboxyl group. This process is very important industrially. [Pg.878]
