Reaction With Carbonyl Compounds. Primary and secondary nitroparaffins undergo aldol-type reactions with a variety of aldehydes and ketones to give nitro alcohols (11). Those derived from the lower nitroparaffins and formaldehyde are available commercially (see Nitro alcohols).
