Carbonic anhydrase physical properties

The purpose of the present review is to summarize how cobalt-linked absorption spectra and other physical properties have been utilized in attempts to elucidate relations between structure and function in these enzymes. The emphasis will be on carbonic anhydrase not only because it reflects the author s own interests, but mainly because it is the most extensively studied cobalt enzyme. Its environmentally-sensitive absorption spectrum has furnished essential information as to the role of the metal ion in the catalytic reaction. For other enzymes, the probe properties of cobalt are just beginning to be explored, but significant advances have recently been reported (7). [Pg.155]

The measurement of activity, isolation and purification, activation, inhibition, and distribution of carbonic anhydrase have been reviewed (Van Goor, 1948 Vallee and Altschule, 1949 Roughton and Clark, 1951 Weier and Stocking, 1952). A summary of its physical and chemical properties will be given here. [Pg.333]

A general definition of the Quantum Molecular Similarity Measure is reported. Particular cases of this definition are discussed, drawing special attention to the new definition of Gravitational-like Quantum Molecular Similarity Measures. Applications to the study of fluoromethanes and chloro-methanes, the Carbonic Anhydrase enzyme, and the Hammond postulate are presented. Our calculations fully support the use of Quantum Molecular Similarity Measums as an efficient molecular engineering tool in order to predict physical properties, lMok>gical and pbarraacdogical activities, as well as to interpret complex chemical problems. [Pg.32]
