Carbon rings, polymerization

Nylon 6 is polymerized from 2-oxohexamethyleneimine (6 carbons) nylon 11 and 12 are made this way from 11- and 12-carbon rings, respectively. 

Here, lipase-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of cyclic compounds giving polymers other than polyesters is described. l,3-Dioxan-2-one, six-membered cyclic carbonate, was polymerized in the presence of lipase catalysts (Fig. 13)... 

Polymerization of Spiropentane. The study of polymerization by opening of the three carbon ring has given a picture of the reactivity of spiropentane with respect to various catalysts. 

C3N3(NH2)3) a white solid organic compound whose molecules consist of a six-membered heterocyclic ring of alternate carbon and nitrogen atoms with three amino groups attached to the carbons. Condensation polymerization with methanal or other aldehydes produces melamine resins, which are important thermosetting plastics. 

Reactions of Hydrocarbons. Several types of reactive hydrocarbon functional groups can be used to polymerize and cross-Unk monomers and ohgomers into thermoset plastics. These include addition polymerization of acetylene-terminated molecules and ring-opening polymerization of strained carbon rings. They also include Friedel-Crafts condensation to form hydrocarbon polymers.
