Calender A precision machine equipped rolls with three or more heavy, internally heated or cooled (or both), revolving in opposite directions, used for continuously sheeting and plying up elastomeric compounds, and frictioning or coating with elastomeric compounds.

Calendered products include sheet stock, belting, and friction and coated fabrics. A large proportion of sheet stock is later diefinished products such as gaskets, pads, and diaphragms. 

Bank, rubber mill n. A relatively small amount of unvulcanized rubber compound rolling in the space between two mill rolls, while the major portion of the compound is bonded around the first roll. Rubber calenders consist of at least three rolls which can be adjusted for gap, speed and temperature. They are used to form rubber sheeting to required lengths and thickness for subsequent building operations. They are also used for frictioning or skim coating fabrics. Cord and wire are coated in this way for making plies used in the construction of tires and conveyor belts.
