9 CALCULATION OF AVERAGE VALUES USING THE MAXWELL DISTRIBUTION 

From the Maxwell distribution, the average value of any quantity that depends on speed can be calculated. If we wish to calculate the average value of some function of speed g c we multiply the function g c) by dn, the number of molecules that have the speed c then we sum over all values of c from zero to infinity and divide by the total number of molecules in the gas.
