Butylated hydroxy toluene, determination

The effects of cysteine pretreatment on hepatic microsomal demethylation of DMN and deethylation of diethylnitrosamine (DEN) were compared (34J). While cysteine inhibited DMN demethylase, no inhibitory effect on the production of acetaldehyde from DEN was observed. The hepatic deethylation of DEN was stimulated by pretreatment of rats with phenobarbitone, 3-methylcholanthrene, butylated hydroxy toluene, and DDT (318). The hepatic DEN deethylase activity in mice has been determined as a function of age and sex (389a). Peak activity was reached in both sexes between the seventh and fifteenth days of life thereafter, activity was higher in males. Mice treated with DEN at day 15 in carcinogenesis assays showed a higher incidence of liver tumors than those treated later, but no sex difference was observed in these experiments. 

Conditions for preparation of poly(trimethylsilyl methacrylate). All reactions were run in toluene for 24 hours using a monomerxatalyst ratio of 50 1. As determined by gel permeation chromatography in tetrahydrofuran versus poly(methyl methacrylate) standards. PDI = Mw/Mn. As determined by NMR spectroscopy. OBHT = -0-(2,6-di-t-butyl)-4-methylbenzene (butylated hydroxy toluene)... 

While polystyrenes can also be used non-stabilized, copolymers with butadiene content, such as ABS, must be protected against thermal-oxidative damage by antioxidants alone or in combination with synergists. The most important antioxidants here are phenolic antioxidants and BHT (butylated hydroxy toluene). Phosphites are used as synergists and long-chain thiodipropionates as thiosynergists, respectively. The butadiene content determines the antioxidant or the mixture of antioxidant pius synergist needed, see Table 3.3 [86]. 

This high performance liquid chromatographic method is capable of determining down to 0.001% of Irganox 1076, Irganox 1010 and butylated hydroxy toluene antioxidants in polyethylene.
