The main advantage of Cl-MS is the selective production of intact qnasi-molecnlar ions [(M + H)" ]. Figure 3.4 shows the mass spectrum of butyl methacrylate acquired under different ionization conditions. A distribution of the various sequences of MMA and MAA that make up the n = 8 oligomer is measured. The sequences range from MMA3MAA5 to MMAg. MALDI-TOF has been used to characterize the copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and -butyl methacrylate (BMA) [55]. The mass spectrum of a 50/50 MMA/BMA obtained using 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid doped with sodium acetate as the matrix is shown in Fig. 10.10.
