Under the electron microscope, molecules of hemocyanin from Umultis polyphemus appear as spherical particles with a diameter of 16 mfjL (Stanley and Anderson, 1942), whereas micrographs of hemocyanin from Homarus americanus show that the molecule is a flattened ellipsoid of revolution with a hydrated diameter of 12.2 m/u. and a hydrated thickness of 7.8 mjti (Lauffer and Swaby, 1955). Hemocyanin from Busycon canaliculatum has a cube-like form with a well-defined internal structure. Careful examination indicates that each particle... [Pg.539]
