Business portfolios biotechnology

To make a successful move into biotechnology, chemical companies with a mixed portfolio of businesses, be they large conglomerates or narrower life science companies, need to work out which of their many individual businesses are suitable candidates, determine which ones to select for a broader portfolio, and trace out a route for making the transformation. 

In addition to individual businesses, chemical companies have to consider their biotechnology strategies from the point of view of a portfolio and the synergies it offers. The example of the life science companies shows that biotechnology does not contain synergies right across the board, but there are important ones which conglomerates or Hfe science companies can use as a basis for portfolio selection.
