Newer fourth-generation fluoroquinolones such as gati-floxacin, gemifloxacin, and moxifloxacin have improved activity against pneumococci, including macrolide- and penicillin-resistant strains, and are often termed the respiratory quinolones. They are indicated for acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and sinusitis.

Moxifloxacin hydrochloride is a fluoroquinolone/anAbiotic. It interferes with microbial DNA synthesis. Moxifloxacin is indicated in the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chroific bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, and conjunctivitis caused by susceptible organisms. 

A 58-year-old woman with no known renal or liver dysfunction developed orofacial dyskinesia following treatment with oral moxifloxacin for acute bronchitis. The symptoms settled after withdrawal of the medication and 12 weeks of clonidine [61 ].
